Gamjatang 10.04.20

Both my boyfriend and I have not eaten gamjatang in a really long time and recently on a person’s instagram post that I know who is a chef posted gamjatan. I asked her for recipe and we had a delicious meal while filming our mukbang episode.


Pork neck bones, ginger, 5 whole pieces of peeled garlic, 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, 1 medium sized onion, 8 green onions, perilla leaves, 4 potatoes (I used 6 because I like potatoes as well as my boyfriend), 1.5 tablespoons of soy bean paste, 5 tablespoons of red pepper powder, 1-2 tablespoons of salt, 1 tablespoon of black pepper, 3 tablespoons of perilla powder and 1-2 korean hot peppers (I used 7 really small sized ones).

First, for 3-4 hours you will need to soak the neck bones in cold water. In between at halftime, rinse and change the water.

Then boil the neck bones for about 20 minutes, drain and rinse in cold water again. Then we will add in the seasoning and cook the neck bones. Add in the ginger, whole garlic, half the amount of green onions (4), 1/2 of the onion sliced, half of the sliced korean hot pepper, black pepper and soy bean paste. Let the neck bones thoroughly cook through for about 1 hour making sure you put in good amount of water so that it covers the neck bones completely.

Once the neck bones, have almost cooked through, add in the red pepper flakes, salt, minced garlic, the other half of the onion (diced up), perilla leaves (half the amount, save the other half for later) and add in potatoes. My potatoes were big so I cut them up into quarters not too small. Once the potatoes have cooked through and the amount of soup has been reduced, season the last bit up to taste. About 1 tablespoon of korean fish sauce, the perilla powder, the saved half of perilla leaves, the other half of green onions sliced. Cook for 10 more minutes and it will be done~ Enjoy!~
